Lyrics
Rush off to work again,, pushing off that mean last stair
Got a lotta streets to pound,, my head's turned down
Legs know the path and I wear a frown,,
If there is too much stress,, my liver cleans up the mess
It's just another dusty mop,, when yr weapons drop
If you tip back too much and yr night watch stops
I'm vulnerable to the thieves and all the other scum on the street
Don't you know there ain't no claws I'm searching for,,
There ain't no laws I'm searching for,,
There ain't no spells I'm searching for,,
There ain't no clause that I'm under to harness my mind...
Too much comfort dulls the mind,, shovels soil I hoped to find
Feelings cold on mind controlled,, wasted life on the blind
Cover dust over my name,, I'll never pass this way again
Change my walk,, lose their trail,, history written, never mailed...
BackStory
...really the only part that survived from the '95 version was the 'no spells that I'm under to harness my mind' turnaround -- the beginning was tacked on a decade later during a period of miserable walks to work after drinking too much nightly,,... I was also addicted to Samurai movies around that time (whatever particular film it was where Mifune gets robbed by thieves after getting drunk or something to that effect) - ...then there's an obvious Neil Young tremolo guitar break,, but for some reason the lap steel behind it reminds me of the slide guitar on the first Afghan Whigs 7" (Sister Brother/Hey Cuz,, Sub Pop singles 1990)... a band that's easy to dislike and generally didn't matter much,, but!,, that 7" stills stands up as a weird/elusive hybrid of the classic Mudhoney/Dinosaur sound from back then...
