See your old clothes on some junkies back
Watch your furniture get up and disappear
Have pity on those who've gotta suffer from their own hand
And watch what they have get up and disappear
A chapter must be closed
A chapter must be closed
It can't go on and on and on and on
You gotta shut it down to start it up again
It can't go on and on and on and on
I'm not gonna rise up like a Phoenix from the fire and fly away
not gonna hold hands with the whole wide world on an endless sunny day
Why can't people accept it may just be the way it always was
They're so wrapped up in fantasy
Oh, a chapter must be closed
A chapter must be closed
It can't go on and on and on and on
You gotta shut it down, to start it up again
It can't go on and on and on and on
BackStory
"Chapter" sat around with a small group of songs that I just wasn't ready to record for about 5 years... I don't think I was ready to go quite that hi-fi or something... but the lyrics were written right when our violinist left the band and of course I've worked at a homeless shelter now for 11 years so my daily diet is not distanced from these things -- Interestingly,, the 2nd verse is some sort of reply to what we've been talking about on the other thread about a coming spiritual transformation with "I'm not going to rise up like a phoenix from the fire" -- ..otherwise,, next time you get home and bong-up... switch it out with this song instead and tell me what happens!,, it always reminds me of it (besides maybe some latent Sade vibe)::
